Vet Schools
Based on our initial discussions with students at a variety of veterinary and technical
schools, we have constructed a process that specifically addresses concerns and
desires brought to our attention by students!
In the spirit of continuing to meet your evolving needs, please feel free to provide
insight and/or feedback into what would help you and your peers the most.
Our motivation behind investing time in students is the payoff you, the student,
will receive. New graduates are notorious for adding to the turnover statistics
and most of this is a result of associates not fully understanding what they expect
from a practice and from themselves. The earlier we can become involved, through
speaking and career counseling, the more time you will have to think about and define
who you are and what you’re looking for.
“I did everything wrong,” she says. “I just forgot that I was going to set goals
and that I needed a vision. I basically took the job that offered me the most money,
and it was a really bad fit.” – Dr. Knutson, AAHA-accredited Practice Owner
MyVeterinaryCareer just contributed several articles and videos to the American
Animal Hospital Association’s new Student website. To avoid making mistakes similar
to Dr. Knutson, check out http://www.aahanet.org/OtherSites/students.aspx, to learn
more about Career Planning, including the value of Mission Statements, Vision Planning
and Goal Setting.
MyVeterinaryCareer had the opportunity to speak at several veterinary schools in 2008
on topics ranging from Interviewing Skills to Resume Building to Practice Ownership.
If you are interested in having a member of our team come speak to your VBMA, AAHA or
AVMA student chapter, please feel free to contact us!
Instead of waiting to ‘put’ you in a job after graduation, working with you during
school enables us to get to know you as a person, allowing us to find a Practice
that not only matches your skills and education, but also your personality, desired
work environment, and your long-term career goals.
